Electromechanical tool for locating the free point in stuck tubing, drillpipe or casing by measuring stretch or response to applied torque.
The Free Point Indicator Tool measures stretch or response to applied torque across a 52" section of tubing, drillpipe or casing. These measurements help determine the free point in a stuck string and select a connection for back-off. A casing bowspring section adapts the tool for use in casing.
The tool can be combined with a string shot to determine the free point and perform a back-off in a single run. This reduces the need for separate trips and can save rig time. An electrical reset allows the measurement to be returned to zero while downhole.
