Explosive back-off tool used to help release a threaded connection in stuck drillpipe after the free point has been determined.
The Backoff String Shot supports stuck-pipe recovery by helping release a selected threaded connection. It is used after the free point has been determined and the tool has been correlated to the required depth.
The tool delivers an explosive impulse at the connection while left-hand torque is applied to the drill string, helping the connection unscrew. The explosive loading is selected to suit the well conditions.
The assembly can be positioned directly below a freepoint tool with fire-through capability.
